VIENNA — A program by a Vienna child care center is benefiting the community.

The Kids for Kids Initiative was created by the Olivia and Friends Child Care and Development Center where the goal was to help teach kids in daycare “about doing good in the community while helping other kids and families in the area,” owner Samantha Byers said.

“For our first event, our mission was to raise money for a new playground and community garden space for our daycare. Our friends and families worked hard and because of their efforts, we were able to raise over $4,000,” she said.

Half of the money raised was donated to departments at WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center that provide care to children, Byers said. A check for $2,080 was presented to Camden Clark on Wednesday.

“This was our first Kids for Kids event, with many more planned in the future,” she said.

Candace White, director of perioperative services, at Camden Clark, was appreciative.

“It was an honor to meet Samantha and the children that she cares for,” White said.

“This is such a generous gift and an amazing act of kindness from Ms. Byers, the children and their parents. It is very heartwarming to see someone working to instill the value of helping others in children at such an early age,” White said. “This donation will be split between departments at our hospital to assist with the purchase of items to help comfort children during their stay with us.”
