The purchasers of a Manifold Heights home at auction won’t have far to travel when it’s time to move in.
Currently living in the house next door, young couple Alex and Tanja, held off two other bidders to win the prize of 15 Longview Avenue on Saturday.
They paid $896,000 for the three-bedroom, one-bathroom character home set in a prime pocket of 3218, close to Newtown and the Geelong Ring Road.

And, the determined pair had some solid bidding support on hand, including daughters Eleanora and Evelina, as well as plenty of family cheering them on.
Alex said they plan to give the home a serious facelift before enjoying it as their family residence.
He said the young family hadn’t actually been house hunting for long, but knew they had to act when the property was listed for sale.
“It’s lucky we’re here, we’ll renovate then move over,” Alex said.
“It just came up, we always knew we wanted to be here, we had other plans going on, but this has debunked them all.”
Maxwell Collins, Geelong auctioneer Shaun Carroll said he was thrilled that the neighbours had purchased the property.
“We’re very happy because they know and love the area,” Mr Carroll said.
Bidding opened at $750,000.
After a slow start, Mr Carroll was looking to pass the property in when a second bidder chimed in at $760,000 to get the ball rolling.
From there, the price climbed, albeit slowly at times, to $896,000, smashing the listed price expectations of $750,000 to $780,000.
Mr Carroll said the character home, set on a 697sq m allotment, was ready to renovate.
“It’s a sizeable block and there’s plenty of scope for further improvement or an extension out the back, subject to council approval.”
Inside, the floorplan features a lounge with gas heating and a spacious sunroom with built-in bench seat.
Two of the bedrooms have built-in wardrobes, while the smaller third could be used as a study or home office.
The location is close to Autumn Street, public transport, sporting facilities and parkland.
