Qld government launches QR check-in app

A new app designed by the Queensland government to simplify COVID-19 check-ins at hospitality venues has been launched.

The free app will allow patrons to check in multiple people, and will save and auto-fill details to create a quicker, more convenient process, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk says.

“Once people have used the Check In Qld app at one business, it remembers your details, saving you time in the future,” she said.

While not mandatory, as similar check-in apps are in other states, Ms Palaszczuk urged venues to take it up.

“The more businesses sign up, the better it will be for all of us.”

Some form of digital check-in is required for all hospitality venues in Queensland.

Extensive testing of the app has been conducted, and venue operators have given it an enthusiastic thumbs up, she said.

Doug Meagher, Venue Manager at the Orion Hotel in Springfield, said the new app saves a whole lot of time for his staff.

“Rolling out this app is a massive step forward for Queensland in maintaining a COVID safe environment,” he said.

Health Minister Yvette D’Ath said the app will securely store patrons’ details, which they can be confident will only be used for contact tracing, unlike some other QR code apps.
