Review Samsung Galaxy Buds Live – Birmingham Alive

As you can see from the title of this article, it is dedicated to our analysis of Galaxy Buds Live, Samsung’s latest headphones. These headsets are particularly interesting, starting with their bean shape, which ends up being directly associated with Samsung.

But let’s try to figure out what these headphones are worth, which launched last August, and only now are we in a position to review them.

Design and comfort

I have already revealed that they are bean shaped, but I didn’t mean to say that they are uncomfortable and very discreet, that they really are. These Live Buds have a unique curve that allows them to fit my ears surprisingly well, and I admit I love their design, as they line up with my ears and don’t stick out of them like the vast majority. headphones heard. And just for that, Samsung is already gaining points.

Its charging case has a square shape with curved sides. It is a case easy to carry, and in the pocket, given the absence of edges, it does not disturb. The material that is constructed is of good quality, and in addition to 3 weeks of use, and spending hours in different pockets, the case has not suffered any scratches, although it is often with keys and other items. that can scratch it.

These are the most comfortable headphones I have ever had the chance to try. Their design allows them to adjust very easily to my ear, and their weight and dimensions seem to me to be the most suitable for this type of device. I was able to use them for over 3 hours continuously, and at no time did I experience any discomfort which is a great thing.
However, its design gives it some drawbacks if it is purchased with other headphones as removing them from the ear is not as easy as other headphones. It’s not a problem, it’s just an inconvenience. It doesn’t cost a lot to take them off, but it’s not as quick and easy as any other headset that has a part outside the ear.

Applications and resources

Thanks to the Galaxy Wearable app, which can be installed on any Android smartphone, or the Galaxy Buds app for iOS, we can personalize these headphones. However, some of its features are exclusive to Samsung smartphones.
Apps allow you to activate active noise cancellation, the Find My Earbuds feature to track a lost headset, and customize the controls for each headset. In these apps, you can also switch between six audio presets including Normal, Bass Boost, Smooth, Dynamic, Clear, and Treble Boost. Each sound mode did a decent job of highlighting different frequencies (especially the bass and treble settings).

As we currently do not have an iOS device, we were unable to test the respective app, but the Galaxy Wearable app offers several exclusive benefits if you have a Galaxy device. This includes Bixby’s voice control, which lets you use the assistant, for example, to check the weather forecast or play a song without ever taking your phone out of your pocket. There’s also a game mode, which aims to minimize audio latency while playing, along with an option to have your notifications read aloud.

Sound and noise suppression

Technically these headphones offer active noise cancellation, but it’s a slightly different experience than we can get in other more expensive headphones. Samsung calls it an “open type ANC,” Buds Live’s noise cancellation implementation is designed to cover up small background noises while still allowing you to hear important sounds. For example, if you are near a road you will hear passing cars, a bell at the house can also be well heard, or even public transport announcements when we are waiting for them.

Even with that in mind, I noticed that the ANC effect is extremely subtle. They are able to reduce the intensity of many outside noises, but this does not completely suppress them. This can be seen from two points of view, in which the first is that it avoids certain accidents, because it does not completely isolate us from the world around us, the other point of view is that the noise cancellation doesn’t do what is supposed to do it, and it could ruin our user experience.

The smartphone app offers the option to let in more of the ambient sound to relieve any pressure or stiffness you might feel while using these headphones without ANC. While I did notice a change in frequency and slightly louder ambient noise with this effect active, it was not as pronounced as in headphones.

In short, the noise cancellation of these Galaxy Buds Live is great for eliminating some little environmental noises because it doesn’t eliminate them completely.
As for its sound quality, it uses 12mm speakers and a projected air outlet to make the music more precise and lively .. and in general, these Samsung headphones have provided rich and full sound for everything. type of sound you want. Listen.

The soft, bold guitars and the airy vocals ring out clearly. In rock, bass, drums, and guitars sounded great even as the music hit its boom. The same goes for any other type of music, so I can say these Live Buds do a great job.

When it comes to using it in calls, a triple set of microphones allows for clear calls, although I have had mixed results using the headset to talk to people. During a Microsoft Teams group call with several coworkers, most people noticed my voice was clear, but the sound sounded very low. However, in other phone calls they have sometimes claimed that I seem to be very far from the phone (when I have the headphones on), even in quiet areas.

Autonomy of Live Buds

This is one of the strengths of these headphones, since their autonomy is very interesting. Samsung promises up to 6 uses, and this value is obviously achieved if both ANC and Bixby are disabled.

However, in my testing, with everything connected, I still had an excellent 4 hours and that number dropped to around 5 hours with the ANC turned on.

Its charging case allows for about 2 full charges, and Samsung says that with it you can have up to 21 hours of battery life. And I can confirm that I had a little over two full charges for the headphones, just with the case. Something really, really good.

Samsung Galaxy Buds Live: final verdict

It is definitely an impressive set of wireless earbuds because it offers excellent overall sound quality, long battery life, and lots of useful features in a comfortable and unique design. The headphones offer a fair amount of customization options through the Samsung app.

However, if you are looking to buy Buds Live because it has true noise cancellation, with a low price tag, you might want to consider other options as ANC doesn’t work like in other headphones. High. But other than that, we’re up against a great device that sure won’t put you off.

At the time of writing, these Samsung Galaxy Buds Live are being sold domestically for € 199.90.
